Chapter 12

Elven Protectorate of Lord Elu’ril T’Mar (Formerly known as Washington, D.C.)

1112 hours EST, December 24th, 2015

Humans and their holidays, D’Korth mused. He didn’t like giving the damn human scum a day off. This, ‘Ghost’ was inspiring more and more trouble, but Lord T’Mar, the soft fool, had ordered that the humans be allowed to observe all their non-national holidays and this of course, included their ‘Christmas’. Lord T’Mar didn’t do this out of simple kindness, but to undercut human resistance. They don’t care if we’re nice to them. Most of them would kill us if they could!

As far as D’Korth was concerned, T’Mar did not understand the fact that there was a gift-giving component to the holiday and since the humans were living hand to mouth, it was only going to inspire more, not less resistance. Reminding the humans of what they have lost is not going to make us a better option for them. D’Korth gave his head a good shake. It didn’t help that this ‘Ghost’ had motivated the humans to resist in all sorts of creative ways. Last week, a mother of three had been caught pouring household sugar into the gas tanks of the police ‘cars’ in Alexandria. She had no previous criminal record and was an office manager before the invasion.

This, ‘Ghost’ is motivating the serfs. And he is proving to be very frustrating. I suspect that some amongst the ‘Eye Tea’ department here are not doing their utmost to catch him, either. And the gnomes we have contracted I suspect have caught this human mind virus of ‘freedom’. Sure, they are obeying the letter of this contract, but gnomes are shifty bastards. They built multiple breaks into their damnable contracts! The anger rose in D’Korth and he closed his eyes, then pinched the bridge of his aquiline nose as he slowed his breathing deliberately.

“This entire situation is unacceptable,” D’Korth muttered. “I am no ‘policeman’ and I do not care for the lives and property of human scum.”

They humiliated us centuries ago and brought the damn pox to our world. I will never inherit my father’s wealth. He’s made that clear and considers me a failure. Especially after Raleigh, I make no apologies for what I did there. Humans needed to learn who their betters were. I think their dying bodies looked better hanging from lampposts anyhow. Lord T’Mar and my father know nothing of what must be done to expand the Imperium. I am out here, winning them glory, while they relax with their libations and their females! The anger built in D’Korth, he knew he was twice the elf that his father or T’Mar were. Neither one of those mewling morons had done more than gotten good elves murdered by these… mad Americans. We should simply wipe them all out and find more docile people to reseed this land.

He leafed through the reports and read them again. D’Korth had been a man of action. Right or wrong, D’Korth always preferred to act sooner and worry later.
